first off, it's been a somber trading day today. 9:15 moment of silence remembering what happened in connecticut. so i don't know. it seems to be maybe there is a muted sense there's going to be a spirit of compromise up there in washington now. we've seen some rotational action. cyclicals are down, banks are up. they seem to anticipate that this is going to be resolved. and then the implications are if we don't have a santa claus rally as we talked about, then we'll see something in january. because this last quarter has been sort of a wait and see kind of thing. that would probably speak to a good quarter for us next time around. >> you know, i wonder. i don't know that anybody's happy with oh, well this is going to be a january affair. and we're not going to deal with this after christmas. did you see a change in money flows? you're there on the floor watching real money move throughout sectors. did you see any change today or on friday as people felt that maybe we are at the beginning of a deal? or still people are sort of sitting on their hands and not wanting to move money around? >> getti

we are again live in newtown, connecticut. it has become for all the wrong reasons main street usa. that may all change. plenty of news on that subject tonight with president obama laying out a plan of action today and the nra planning to speak on that later this week. for now, people living for the moment. for the families living hour by hour, minute by minute, second by second even. they aare tending to the sadly duty they have to bury the dead and to remember and to honor. daniel barden was always smiling and had two front teeth missing. his dad was a musician and he followed his lead by playing the drums. his family described him as a thoughtful boy when he noticeded kids sitting alone in the lunchroom in school he would join him. in an interview, his dad remembers teaching him to play "jingle bells" on the way to school >> we held hands on the way to the bus. and that was our last morning together. he did get up early that morning and ran down the driveway so he could kiss his brother good-bye in his pajamas. it was 22 degrees. he was exception aexceptional. >> his family says

it's a tight-knit community in this southwestern connecticut town. and even though you can't really get a sense of it now, it is one of the more picturesque places i'm standing in. rolling green hills and quite an affluent neighborhood, two and three-story homes. the thinking is people moved to this area because of the school systems. so it strikes a particular chord that this occurred within an elementary school. but then you also have that other side, the talk of this woman, nancy lanza, who collected guns, some high-powered weapons as in that bushmaster that was used in the elementary school shooting. it's not clear whether she attended some of the shooting ranges in the area although we know there are at least three shooting ranges within a 20-mile range of this area. one of the workers that i spoke to at a local business here said that she often showed her rifle -- showed a rifle that she had recently purchase and even brought her children target shooting. not clear if that occurred at those ranges or just in and around the area. atf and federal
